Bowen Therapy for the Perinatal Period

Maintaining flexible fascia and a balanced nervous system is key as your body undergoes major changes during conception, pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum healing.

Pelvic Health

Through its balancing effects on the nervous system and pelvic fascia, Bowen Therapy may assist in:

  • regulation of the menstrual cycle

  • enhanced fertility for both men and women

  • optimal functioning of the reproductive organs

  • healthy circulation through the pelvic area

  • balancing of the pelvic musculature

Pregnancy

Bowen therapy can provide support during all stages of pregnancy and assists in addressing many of the common complaints/symptoms that can arise during this period of rapid growth and change. Regular treatments during pregnancy can optimise pelvic and spinal alignment, encouraging space for baby to grow and foetal positioning in preparation for birth.

  • First Trimester - may assist with fatigue, anxiety, nausea and the symptoms of hormonal changes

  • Second Trimester - may alleviate backache, hip pain, sciatica, emotional fatigue, anxiety/stress, tender breasts, decreased energy levels

  • Third Trimester - may relieve pelvic pressure, varicose veins, haemorrhoids, aching/swollen feet, heartburn/reflux, constipation, breathlessness

  • Birthing - may assist in foetal positioning, provide pain relief and support tone of the uterus and pelvic floor

Postpartum

Due to the gentle, non-invasive nature of the treatment, Bowen therapy may be used very soon after birthing and is suitable after both natural births and c-sections. After the intensive process of birth, all elements of the pelvic structure and nervous system need to recover. Bowen Therapy may assist this process through:

  • stimulating and supporting the body’s natural postpartum healing processes

  • aiding in muscle, ligament and tendon recovery, thereby reducing pelvic instability

  • guiding realignment of the pelvic structure and repositioning of the pelvic organs

  • promoting circulation to the pelvic area
