Autumn Equinox has been observed and celebrated as a time of significance since ancient times.
For the local Nyoongar people, this time of year is Bunuru - Second Summer, the Season of Adolescence. A time of hot, dry weather, scarce rain and windy afternoons.
Many cultures mark equinox as a celebration of the harvest. In India, Sharada Navratri is a time of reflection and rejuvenation physically, mentally and spiritually. This occurs over the “Holy Nine Nights” around this time, during which different forms of Shakti (feminine creative energy) are celebrated.
You can learn more about other culture’s autumn equinox traditions here.
