The World I Dream to Create
The following statement expresses My Heart’s Desire for the yoga I share across the perinatal period and into parenthood. This was inspired by an exercise contained within the book “Skill in Action: Radicalising Your Yoga Practice to Create a Just World” by Michelle Cassandra Johnson.
I dream to create a world where all people who wish to experience the journey of parenthood can do so. Where all people on this journey - whether trying to conceive, pregnant or supporting a pregnancy or parenting - feel seen, heard and supported. Where those with experience on the journey share wisdom with truthfulness and where respect is mutual for those taking the first steps and those deeply entrenched.
Where all parents and prospective parents are aware of where they hold privilege (if they do), and their intersectionality, yet still feel valued in their expression of the joys and tribulations of parenting.
I dream to create a world where parenting is seen as essential in community building and peace-making. Where parents replace ‘parent guilt’ with unapologetic embodiment of their conscious parenting choices. Where all parents have the freedom and empowerment to make these choices.
I dream to create a world where birthing choices, the postpartum period, sleeplessness, teething and tantrums are not taboo topics. Where the difficulties and heartaches of parenthood are not hidden from all but an inner circle. Where finding the journey challenging is understood as a normal part of a huge personal life transformation, not something to hide and pretend it is not happening.
I dream to create a world where parents can celebrate the joys of the journey freely in a way that lifts up and encourages others on the path.
I will remain open to all walks of parenthood and prospective parenthood and work tirelessly towards creating connection for those on this journey wherever there is separation or isolation.
I hope this gives you some idea of the yoga I endeavour to share with you and the world.
